Color Cares Story

Like lots of other people across North America, Dan Wittenkeller had seen many episodes of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and was touched by the stories of the recipient families.

While watching an episode in late 2009, he was struck by a sobering thought.  Although it had been wonderful to see a deserving family receive a life-changing home makeover, he couldn’t help but think about the hundreds to thousands of families that applied for a makeover but were not chosen.

Dan felt that there had to be something that could be done to help them and others like them.  But, what exactly, he wasn’t sure.  He did know that the costs involved in renovating and/or rebuilding thousands of homes would not be a viable option for him.  So instead he turned to what he knows a little bit about – color!

As the founder of, Dan had seen firsthand how color can have a tremendous positive impact on lives.  And knowing that one of the most effective and inexpensive way to change one’s environment is to change the colors that surround him/her, he now knew he had his answer.

“Heck, if a few gallons of paint can improve one person’s state of mind, just think, with millions of gallons we could change the world.”

And with that,  the vision for Color Cares™ was born…to use color as a holistic tool to transform the surroundings of those that need it most!

“Changing lives through the uplifting & healing power of color” is now Dan’s mission.

He encourages you to share in the growing Color Cares™ Global Movement to help spread happiness in full color!

In addition to founding Color Cares, Dan Wittenkeller is the creator of the original Tru-Hue Paint Color Test Boards and founder of a global paint color company.
